Linux @ OneAndOneIs2

(The geeky stuff)

I first became aware of an OS other than Windows when I went to university and started using the Sparc workstations to get on this newfangled thing called "The Internet". Then I graduated and was stuck on Windows again. Until the BSODs really got me down, and I finally screamed "No more! Where are my Linux CDS????

I worked my way through various distros before settling on Gentoo. I can't believe how far Linux has come in the years I was away from it.

This page exists for the following reasons:

• Writing is a hobby of mine. For this reason, I have a blog
• I keep accomplishing things, forgetting how I did it, and then having to look it up again next time. Hopefully writing it down here will help.
• I answer a lot of questions on Linux forums, and sometimes they get repetitive. It's easier to write the answer once and link repeatedly than it is to keep answering the same questions.

So, software I shall cover eventually, when this page is finished:

• My boot manager is GRUB
• It loads a 2.6 kernel
• I boot into either a text login or an XDM login screen
• I log in to FVWM2
• I use Firefox to browse the web
• I play some games
• I use XMMS to play MP3s and Oggs
• I use Mplayer for all movie files & DVDs
